Inclusion at Saint Jérôme

Our vision is to translate the love of God for all people into words and actions, and that means every child belongs here. God’s love has no exceptions, so every pupil is valued for who they are, whatever their needs, abilities, language or background. We work closely with families so that no one is left behind and every child can grow and flourish.
Our approach
We offer an inclusive curriculum so that all pupils make the best possible progress, whatever their needs or abilities. Not all pupils with disabilities have special educational needs, and not all pupils with SEN meet the definition of disability; our policy covers all of these pupils.
Identifying and meeting needs
We are committed to identifying special educational needs early, and we follow a graduated response. We gather evidence through our usual assessment and monitoring. If this suggests a pupil is not making the expected progress, the class teacher consults the SENCO to decide whether additional or different provision is needed.
Education Support Plans (ESPs)
Any additional or different provision is recorded in an Education Support Plan (ESP). The class teacher usually writes it with the SENCO, always in consultation with the pupil, parents and carers and other teachers, and sometimes with advice from external agencies. The ESP is reviewed every term. Pupils take part in reviews according to their age and ability, and parents and carers are invited to help set and review targets.
Further support
If a pupil is making insufficient progress despite significant support, we may seek advice from outside professionals, who then contribute to monitoring and review. Pupils and parents are kept fully informed and involved. For pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), progress and support are also reviewed annually, with a report provided to the local authority.
