Religious Education
In Church of England schools, where pupils and staff come from all faiths and none, religious education (RE) is a highly valued academic subject. It helps pupils understand how religion and belief shape people’s lives and the world around them. Christianity is at the heart of RE in church schools, and pupils also learn about other religious and non-religious worldviews.
Our curriculum
We follow the LDBS Primary RE Syllabus, written by the London Diocesan Board for Schools. It meets the expectations of the Church of England’s Religious Education Statement of Entitlement (2026). Pupils study Christianity as a diverse, global, living faith, alongside the other faiths represented in our local community. RE is taught weekly for around an hour in every year group.
What pupils gain
Through RE, our pupils learn to ask big questions about meaning, purpose and belief, and to listen respectfully to the views of others. This reflects our Christian vision of a multilingual, multicultural community where everyone is respected and valued.
Withdrawal from RE
We encourage all pupils to take part in RE, and we’re always happy to talk to parents about our curriculum and approach. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from RE. If you are considering this, we are happy for you to contact us first to discuss.
