News from Year 6

Before half term, Year 6 participated in Harrow’s Junior Citizenship Scheme where they met with the police, fire fighters, nurses and Transport for London.

They learnt all about fire safety, how quickly fire spreads and what to do if they find themselves in such a situation. The police discussed road safety, electric scooters and e-bikes alongside how to deal with certain situations on public transport.

The nurse discussed the dangers of certain substances, their legality and possible impact on the children’s future.

Jiya, Euonymus class: “It was a really good experience to learn about safety as we move to a new school. We were reminded not to take things from strangers because it could be something illegal and this can lead to us getting in trouble.

Malik, Euonymus class: “I really enjoyed learning how to protect ourselves during a fire. One thing I learnt was to never keep my phone under my pillow when charging as this can lead to an explosion and then a bigger fire.”
