The temple was founded in 2001 and children had the opportunity to ask questions, such as ‘why are there so many candles?’ ‘ How often do you have festivals’ before being shown around the temple, observing a ritual given by the priest and sketching what they saw inside.

News from Reception

14 Jan 2025

We have been immersing ourselves in a range of different traditional tales. The children have thoroughly enjoyed retelling the stories during their free play, showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm. It has been particularly wonderful to see many of them beginning to label their pictures using their phonics knowledge, demonstrating their growing literacy skills.

In Mathematics, we have continued our exploration of how many parts make a whole number. The children continue to enjoy playing with Numberblocks, which has greatly enhanced their understanding and enjoyment of numbers. Their enthusiasm for building and representing numbers has been wonderful to witness

I wonder, what the mystery of Christmas means to you…

9 Dec 2024

As shops begin to get even busier and Christmas lights turn on, the children of Saint Jérôme have begun a period of Advent. During Godly Play and worship last week, children have started to explore the wonderful mystery of Christmas. They have begun to explore the concept of incarnation and what it means to Christians. Children have also thought about the importance of each of the weeks of Advent as they journey to Bethlehem with the prophets, the holy family, the shepherds and the magi. It has been incredible to understand the importance of waiting for our mystery. We have also enjoyed sharing what Advent looks like in different churches.

Cross Country Competition

26 Nov 2024

On Tuesday 26th November 2024, 28 children from Year 5 and Year 6 represented St Jérôme at our first inter-school cross country competition at Newton Park. This was the largest group we have taken so far to participate and it was definitely worth it.

All the children did fantastically; they cheered for, supported and looked after each other throughout and in between the races. Each child experienced individual successes against others and against themselves, pushing themselves further than they thought possible. We await the final results, which will be posted on the sport’s notice board and will feature in an upcoming Quill. This is the first of three cross country competitions this year, so get out in the mud, and go run!
