Create a National Book Token Design Competition

12 May 2020

Encourage your children to create a fabulous National Book Token design while they’re learning from home, and they could return to school with National Book Tokens for all! Whether it’s their school crest doodled in ink, a pencil drawing of the entire class, or something completely different, we’ll choose one child’s design to put on a National Book Tokens gift card every week for seven weeks.

When schools open up again, to more pupils, the young designer and their classmates will each receive a £10/€10 National Book Token – emblazoned with the winning artwork – to inspire them to choose their next favourite book from their local bookshop.

Premier Mai

1 May 2020

On Friday 1st May, let’s celebrate the “Premier mai” tradition, when on this French bank holiday people sell at any street corner, for charity or because they are feeling entrepreneurial, some “brins de muguet”, sprigs of lily of the valley. We buy them for friends and family to bring happiness and good luck. The bells’ scent is strong and always reminds us of happy times, sharing gratitude and appreciation with loved ones.

Here is the Le muguet du premier mai song showing you the beautiful plant that fills French homes with its sweet fragrance.
